…sappears 
 for a held-breath moment
 in a blue lake,
 sending ripples of joy
 into the cattails.
 
 Writing poetry is the tenacious
 wrestling with God for a blessing,
 grappling in sweat, dust, and dirt
 until he breaks my hip 
 and changes my name,
 until I feel the blood and breath
 of his forgiveness,
 until I stick my finger
 in the wound
 in the God-man’s side.

 my chest 
 to expose my beating and bleeding heart,
