Who designed & made Jackie Kennedy’s wedding gown?
Ann Lowe -Fashion’s best-kept secret!
Ann Lowe:
The trailblazing African American designer worked for New York’s high society throughout the 1950s. Lowe loved her clothes and was particular about who was wearing them.
In 1953 Ann Lowe designed both the wedding dress and bridesmaids’ dresses for Jackie Kennedy’s wedding.
Ten days before the event, disaster struck! A pipeline burst in Lowe’s New York studio, destroying the original dresses. However, Lowe & her team worked day & night to remake the intricate gowns.
She used fifty yards of silk taffeta to make the bridal gown and ten bridesmaid dresses completing the dresses in record time for the wedding.
Despite suffering a loss of $2,200, Ann never uttered a word about her disaster. Instead, her motivation was to keep her commitment and provide the goods in mint condition, on time & to her customer’s satisfaction.
Mrs. Jackie Kennedy:
One of the most stylish First Ladies in United States history!
Her dress suits, pillbox hats, and signature hairstyles influenced how American women dressed in the 1960s.
