The new class for Life support students had commenced. I volunteered to organize the mannikins in preparation for the activities.
The instructor, Mr. Jeffrey Strachan, entered, introduced himself & greeted all the students asking their first names & what they hoped to achieve in life.
He tells the following story:
In the 20th century, a Scottish farmer walked past a swamp looking for one of his dogs. Suddenly he heard a cry for help. He ran towards the sound and saw a boy struggling to get out of the muddy end of a swamp.
The farmer cut down a long branch from a nearby tree, extended the branch to the boy & helped the lad get out. The boy trembled & cried with gratefulness to the farmer for saving him.
The farmer offered to get a change of clothes for the boy, but he said he was good to run home as his father was waiting & may be worried.
The following morning, a carriage stopped at the farmer’s front door. A well-dressed gentleman greeted the farmer and thanked him for saving his son from the swamp.
The gentleman offered to pay the farmer a considerable sum of money. However, the…
