Adversity brings out the best in people!

Photo by Deidre Elrod-sculpture in Ireland honors the Choctaw nation

We applaud the kind thoughtfulness of one nation towards another.

The year was 1847 when the Choctaw, who had recently arrived in Oklahoma from the 'Trail of Tears,' took up a donation, collecting money to send to Ireland to support the Irish during the potato famine.

The famine ravaged Ireland during the 1940s. The donation was sent to the town of Midleton in County Cork, south of Dublin.

Decades later, the Irish learned the money came from a nation devastated by the government in their country.

In 1995, the Irish President visited the Choctaw nation to thank the Choctaw and establish a friendship.

Then in 2017, the Irish dedicated a beautiful sculpture named 'Kindred Spirits' at the park in Midleton to commemorate the Choctaws for their kindness.

Ireland's Prime Minister initiated a series of annual scholarships for Choctaw students to study in Ireland.

So when the Pandemic of 2020 caused an acute death toll in the Navajo Nation & Hopi Reservation, the Irish provided sizeable aid & assistance to the Navajo.
