The Wife Rules.
Family Living in Fear of their mother.
My distant relatives visit once every four years. We keep in touch via Social Media & text if there is a need. On their recent visit, I invited their grandmother to live at my house instead of the B&B. She is happy to accept, saying, “Thank God I am away from my daughter’s bullying for a week at least.”
Lydia, the grandmother, settled in comfortably. I noticed her nervous demeanor when she spoke about her daughter & her family. Lydia could not help herself. She had to tell someone. It was pitiful! The daughter bosses everyone in the household. She has outbursts of anger at her husband & her two girls. Her mother endures the worst of the daughter’s discontent, quoting her unhappy childhood with no Dad. Heavens! 46 years ago? What rubbish! I say to myself.
Lydia tells me the twelve-year-old girl, Penny, nudges her & tells her to be quiet & not try to defend herself, saying, “Mom will never stop if you answer back- she goes on & on & on-please say nothing, Gramma!”
The little four-year-old girl, Marilyn, is as vindictive and loud as her mother. Lydia says Marilyn has no respect for her and talks down to her, saying horrible things, like her Mom.
I am sorry for Lydia. I tell her there is no need to take abuse from her daughter. Her response is, she is…
