Babi Yar Massacre!
Curious about the people of Ukraine, I came across this very distressing story & I share it.
Holocaust:
In September 1941, the murder of over 33,000 Jews occurred at this ravine in Kyiv. They were shot and killed by Nazi forces in a matter of days!
Babi Yar is considered one of the largest massacres perpetrated during the Holocaust.
Before the Nazi invasion of Ukraine, around 20 percent of Kyiv's population were Jews.
On September 29th, 1941, an order by the Nazis demanded that the city's Jews assemble at the square and bring money, documents & all their valuables for resettlement elsewhere.
Instead, the Nazis marched groups of Jews to Babi Yar and shot them to death over a few days.
The Nazis killed 33,771 Jews at the site. Not only that, but the killing continued at this site for years.
The murders of over 100,000 people occurred at Babi Yar.
After the war, they tried the perpetrators by tribunals set up by the Allies.
Paul Blobel, who oversaw the killings, was convicted of war crimes & sentenced to death in 1948.
