Is My Bagel Safe To Eat?

I love bagels with my oxtail soup. So today, I looked at the label to see what ingredients it contains. My curiosity extends to how these ingredients affect my overall health. Here is what my research found:

Enriched wheat flour.

It is flour with nutrients returned to it which were lost during processing. The restored nutrients are iron and B vitamins. They may also supplement Calcium. They replenish the nutrients to match the nutritional status of the unrefined product.

The Global Fortification Data Exchange mandates 79 countries to enrich and fortify wheat or maize flour.

Why?

To decrease the mold & fungus in grains which is a threat to health.

So what is added to my bagel?

Dough Conditioner.

Dough conditioners are ingredients that improve dough processing & the quality of baked products. They are often found in the flour.These are;

Oxidants.

Their use is to strengthen the dough through disulfide bonding & encourage gas retention. They are Ascorbic acid, Potassium Bromate…
