What Makes Humans Exceptional Long-Distance Runners?

I was captivated by the world of athletic runners, which led me to research the physiology and mechanics of running.

Guess what?

Our secret weapon? It's sweat! With an astounding 2 to 4 million sweat glands scattered throughout our bodies, an athlete can run while keeping cool.

And let's not forget—the lack of fur gives runners an extra edge!

Animals:

Interestingly, while dogs cool off by panting, many other animals, like horses and camels, aren't built for efficient sweating. It means that when the heat rises, they can quickly overheat and need to take a break much sooner than we might expect.

These powerful animals have to manage their energy so carefully to avoid overheating!

Running Stride:

The athletes' running stride mechanics make them especially well-suited for endurance running.
