Survival Sex!
It was a Dismal Lifestyle for a Homeless Girl.
A term I had never heard of until I met Claudine at the homeless shelter.
My! Oh! My! What a wretched lifestyle for a cute 18-year-old girl? We volunteer to give support, respect & love, & to fight homelessness by education & encouragement to these lost souls!
Claudine engaged in survival sex for the past four years to obtain food, clothes & housing.
She never knew her father. Her mother is still in prison for drug dealing. So Claudine made this painful decision to sell her body for survival. She moved from place to place and often suffered violence from the perpetrator.
Social services alerted us & we visit her in the emergency room. They treat her for genital lacerations, infections & blood loss. But, worst of all, she has no clue who the perpetrator is.
Claudine is finally in a safe place at Covenant House. She has a counselor and a place to get advice, tuition, a job in the library, free meals, a bed & shower, and stability in her life to pursue her ambitions. Life has new meaning for Claudine & she is grateful.
We praise the kind folks in the city & county for their support of the facility. We are grateful for the professional volunteers who provide services to the residents. As a result, some young folks have successfully transitioned to a productive career in the public sector.
