Spices are the aromatic parts of tropical plants used to flavor food.

THEY MAKE SPICES FROM:

  1. Dried seeds.
  2. Bark or roots.
  3. The Berries & dried fruits.
  4. Stigmas of the crocus flower.

The aroma and flavor of spices come from the essential oils of the plant. The release of oils occurs by grinding, pounding, grating, and cooking.

What does history tell us about pices?

The history of spice is as old as human civilization. It is a history of lands discovered, empires built, wars won and lost, treaties signed and flouted.

The silk road spice merchants tell us that the spice trade began in the Middle East over 4000 years ago. The trade on the silk road was significant in developing the great civilizations of China, India, Egypt, Persia, Arabia, and Rome. Camel caravan overland routes connected Asia with the Mediterranean world.-The Spice Trader

In his book; SPICE: The History of a Temptation, Jack Turner, a novelist, explores an era from ancient times through the Renaissance when they valued spices in gold and blood. He writes:
