Semen Allergy in Woman’s Health
In the year 1997, I was a Provider as Women’s Health NP at the Gyn Clinic at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage AK.
The scheduled patients were military wives of active duty Air Force Service members. They had appointments for their annual well-woman exams and inter-conception health needs.
The story is about an attractive 30-year-old, Japanese lady. She is the wife of a 37-year-old Captain in the Airforce. They have been married for 17 months and have no children. She was seen and examined for the past two Mondays for the same complaint: Vaginal itching, some redness, and swelling of the external genitalia burning sensation of the vulva & inner thighs, some clear non-odorous discharge. Her history of the symptoms appears to occur after intercourse. She denies douching. She reports tub baths without bath salts seem to ease the discomfort for a while and the OTC vagisil cream is somewhat effective. These symptoms are causing stress and affecting her quality of life.
At her first visit, STD tests were performed. Cultures from the vagina were taken for screening and she was informed that all tests were negative for infection. This day her second visit, she reports “itchy come back”. I decided it is time for a consult with the chief of the GYN Department. We decide to get a consult with the Allergy Department for a better perspective of her symptoms…
