The Outback Steakhouse:
The Outback is an American restaurant chain with an Australian theme. They display “Downunder memorabilia” and “Aussie -appetizers” on the menu.
Why? Because in 1988, all things Australian had become the attraction in the United States. The media exposure of Paul Hogan’s TV ads for Australian Tourism, and his blockbuster movie, “Crocodile Dundee,” and the famous Australian football player Jacko’s commercials of the energizer battery.
It was the power of advertising that created good business ideas for restaurant entrepreneurs.
TGI FRIDAYS:
In 2013, the State’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Office, conduct a raid of thirteen of the TGI Fridays restaurants in New Jersey. The company cheated. They put cheap booze into high-priced brand bottles, charging customers premium prices for it. The company paid the fine of $500,000.
RED LOBSTER:
In 2003, the seafood chain offers customers its “Endless Snow Crab” meal, during their ‘all you can eat’ promotion. Because of high wholesale crab prices, the company lost $3 million. It causes the president of the company to resign.
