The sideshow performer with no limbs.

Who was the inspirational Prince Randian?
Randian ( his birth name was unknown). He was a Hindu, the child of enslaved British Indian parents, born with no arms or legs (tetra-amelia syndrome) in Demerara, British Guyana, on October 12th, 1871.
P.T. Barnum discovered Randian in 1889. Then he employed Randian as a sideshow performer on his tours in the United States.
Randian was called the ‘living torso’ & the ‘human caterpillar’ & others since he crawled on his belly.
Previously he lived at Charlotte Amalie, Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, with his Hindu wife, Princess Sarah. He fathered five children.
In the 1920s, Randian worked for the Krause Amusement Company and lived in Plainfield, New Jersey.
Despite his physical limitations, Randian was a highly skilled & talented individual. He could shave, write, paint, and roll cigarettes unaided.

He had impressive dexterity & fine motor skills, using his lips to accomplish a task. In addition, Randian was known for his intelligence and linguistic aptitude. He spoke Hindi, English, French & German.
Attire for his performance:
Randian wore a one-piece tight-fitted wool garment over his body, giving him the appearance of a caterpillar. He moved by wiggling his hips & shoulders.
He could roll & light a cigarette using his lips, & hold a paintbrush or writing stylus with his lips to paint & write.
Randian starred in the MGM film, ‘Freaks.’

Reports reveal Randian was resilient & determined, with a good sense of humor.
Throughout his life, he faced many challenges & obstacles due to his physical condition.
Despite his physical limitations, he led an inspiring, productive life and accomplished much, leaving a lasting legacy as a performer and skilled individual.
