It is the Address of a famous Whitehouse,

A brief history of the home of the Vice President of the United States.

They built the house in 1893 for $20,000. It is a Queen Anne-style mansion that sits on the grounds of the Naval Observatory, a 72-acre complex.

Here, scientists study the sun, moon, and stars for navigational purposes.

Congress designated the house as the official temporary residence of the Vice President of the United States in 1974. Before then, vice presidents lived in hotels or their own homes.

Secret service needs became too costly, so congress appropriated $315,000 for renovations of the three-story house. In 1977, Walter Mondale was the first vice president to live at One Observatory Circle.

George H. W. Bush & Barbara followed in 1981. They occupied the house during Ronald Reagan’s two terms as U.S. President.

Dan Quayle moved there in 1989. He used private donations to add a putting green, swimming pool, and a pool house.

Joe Biden moved in during Barack Obama’s two-term Presidency.

Today Vice President Kamala Harris and her family live at One Observatory Circle as of January 2021.
