I do not know Pam. I have witnessed strange miracles. One of my bible study class friends was on Hospice after 14 chemo treatments for pancreatic cancer. I visited her & got her back in the hospital to drain fluid off her lungs when she could not breathe. Her Husband was a tremendous support. He would not give up on his wife. Four months later, with God's Grace, she was back singing in the church choir, hand bells & all. She was 76 yrs old.

In 2018 the couple toured Japan for 5 weeks. She survived for nine years. I would see her in the choir at church. Well, on May 7th 2022 I attended her funeral. She succumbed from a heart attack. So I would never give an opinion. But if I were in your friend's shoes I would beg God for His plan & go with that. I have written on Quora about another miracle that I have witnessed.
