My interest in Bible personalities.

The experiences in life, both good & bad, are living lessons for us. I marvel at how God guides & forgives the infractions committed by these historic bible personalities, yet God chose them to become significant Jewish leaders.

For example, Jacob was a man who fervently believed in God. He wanted to be a good husband and father but experienced many frustrations and disappointments.

Jacob’s life in summary:

Jacob means supplanter or deceiver, and he lived up to this bad name.

Striving for blessing. (Genesis 25–28)

The blessing and promise of God passed from Abraham to Isaac, so they must also pass from Isaac to his son.

But Isaac’s wife, Rebekah, has twin sons, Esau and Jacob. The birthright rightfully belongs to Esau since he emerges first from the womb.

Jacob obtains the birthright from his careless brother by trade and later conspires with his mother to steal the fatherly blessing.

Having blessed Jacob, Isaac sends him to Paddan-Haran to find a wife from among Laban’s daughters, the brother of Rebekah.
