Generation Z!
Impressions from a “Zoomer.”
She is 19 going on 20 and says that she cannot decide if her generation “zoomer” is a blessing or a curse. From the obsession with social media to opportunities available to people of all kinds, there is good & not so good in her views of generation Z.
She believes the rise in technology gave way for the takeover of social media, which affects Generation Z, causing distraction and obsession.
“Zoomers” are those born in 1997. She has observed that some in her generation seem depressed, social media-obsessed, politically suppressed, and others display a motivation to make progress in their education.
She finds truth in the research by the American Psychological Association that 37% of the youth in her generation are on treatment for mental health concerns, and about 90% experience stress, sadness, or depression. One of her friends has identity issues. She feels helpless & sad as she can only offer support by listening, have empathy, & encourage counseling.
There is pride in her demeanor when she says she channels her stress into her activities as a leader in the marching band & music. In addition, she is her state’s swimming champion and a member of the honors class. The involvement in activities is her survival mechanism.
