FOLKLORE ON TEETH -FROM BIRTH TO DEATH.
A SHORT STRANGE HISTORY.
Sumerians living 7,000 years ago complained of tooth “worms” causing toothaches and cavities. The cavities looked like holes bored in their teeth, hence the belief of worms. Even the English and Germans thought the worm theory was authentic. So they tell the toothache sufferers to inhale smoke and spread honey on their teeth to persuade the worms to come out.
Weird, yes, indeed!
American folklore suggested the person;
Run three times around the church.
Cook earthworms in oil, then place them in the ear opposite the toothache.
Plug the cavity with your own earwax.
Chase a cat across a plowed field until it sweats, & rub the sweat on the aching tooth.
Eat the eyes of a vulture.
Wow! unbelievable! But that is what Tim Clark writes in Farmer’s Almanac.
Natal Teeth;
Research reports, about 1 in 1000 babies are born with teeth. Ancient Romans say this is a lucky baby & then name the child Dentatus. Other cultures were afraid these children might be vampires, and they killed some.
Milk Teeth;
Twenty primary teeth are present…
