Yes, indeed, they are no longer only being cute! These animals receive training to work alongside humans for life-saving jobs. When the police need backup, the K9s are ready. The select breeds for police work are as follows;

  1. The Belgian Malinois is a medium-sized herding dog. The breed is strong, well-balanced, well-muscled, alert, & agile. (www.akc.org).
  2. Bloodhounds are known as scent hounds & bred to hunt deer. They are affectionate, curious, and friendly. (www.akc.org).
  3. Dutch Shepherds are herding dogs. They are lively, intelligent, athletic, & obedient dogs. (www.akc.org).
  4. Labrador retrievers are popular in most countries. They are friendly, active, and outgoing. (www.akc.org).

Canines are ideal for locating bombs & drugs because of their acute sense of smell. We know of pet dogs that can alert owners of impending seizures. Others can smell cancer, low blood sugar, and even depression in humans.

The Electric Eel;

Specialized abdominal organs in the eel's body release powerful electric charges up to 650 volts to locate and stun its prey. The electric eel originates from Brazil’s Amazon river. The ray-finned eel fish belongs to the order Anguilliformes.

Of course, Japanese ingenuity tap this unique hydropower energy source. The technicians divert the electricity from the eels in a fish tank to power Christmas tree lights. What a proactive nation!
